Prenatal massage is an excellent way to relieve many of the aches and pains that are associated with pregnancy. Prenatal massage is also incredibly relaxing and gentle so it’s safe for pregnant mothers.

We don’t deliver this form of massage during the first trimester because of the risk of miscarriage but for those in the second and third trimesters, this is an amazing treat for your body.

What is a prenatal massage

A prenatal massage is a massage designed specifically for soon-to-be mothers. I know that pregnancy can be painful and comes with many everyday discomforts. Some of the most common ones that we see are lower back pain, backaches, stiff neck, leg cramps, headaches, and swelling.

A prenatal massage can help relieve many of these pains and even help with reducing swelling. It’s very common for our expecting mothers to experience better sleep, reduced stress, pain relief, and a release in nervous tension.

During the prenatal massage, I take extra care to ensure that you’re comfortable throughout the process. We have you in a side position with pillows to support your body and relieve strain.  If you prefer to lay on your back, this is all so perfectly fine and we will position the pillows to make you comfortable there as well.

The primary difference between a standard massage and a prenatal massage is that massage during pregnancy is adapted for the anatomical changes your body experiences during pregnancy.

In traditional massage, you may lay on your stomach which is not something you would do while pregnant. We also use a more gentle pressure since, during pregnancy, you are more susceptible to blood clots so we don’t do deep tissue on this massage. Instead, we focus on relieving pressure, relieving aches and pains, and relaxing you to lower stress hormones.

Who is the prenatal massage for

Prenatal massages for any expecting mothers who are in their second or third trimester. It’s an amazing way to improve your sleep, reduce pains, and just get a break. It’s a lot of work carrying a second human around in your body and we understand that it can be a stressful experience. So we’ve designed this prenatal massage to help you relax and just have a moment to yourself.

What to expect during the massage

We start the prenatal massage by getting you into a comfortable position. You can lay on your side or back during the prenatal massage, whichever you prefer. We will place pillows around you to relieve pressure from your neck hips and back. If you prefer to lay on your back we will place pillows under your legs to relieve lower back pressure.

From there we will begin the massage with gentle pressure. We can do a full body massage or focus on specific areas that need attention.
